It’s been two years since Aubrey O’Day was publicly fired by hip hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs and had to part ways with the group Danity Kane. Since then, AODers everywhere have been following every step of her career closely. At a backstage interview right before the Making the Band Finale in October 2008, Aubrey confirmed that this was the end of a chapter in her life but not the end of her story. Her fans have seen her dabble a little in the studio from time to time in 2009 putting out singles such as; “Party All the Time”, “Never Fallen” and “I Got It” with artists ranging from Roscoe Umali to Shannel from young Money to former New Kids on the Block band member Donnie Walhberg. Her versatility and eclectic style were even more apparent when she headlined Peepshow in Vegas for 3 months. However, her fans were beginning to wonder whether they would ever hear new music from Aubrey again… thankfully they don’t have to wonder much longer.

Early this year, Aubrey announced she was starting to work on her solo album and her new reality show project. The good news continued for fans in February when Shanell from Young Money shared with fans the sound of Aubrey’s new music. She went on to say that Aubrey is a fun sweet girl who loves the 80s and loves everybody and her music will definitely reflect that. Aubrey clearly delivered. In March, during the reveal of Aubrey’s signature milkshake for Millions of Milkshake, hundreds of lucky fans were able to listen in to a snippet of one of the tracks from her upcoming album. A definite tribute to the Olivia Newton John’s number one hit in 1981, “Physical” is definitely a club-banger and a hot dance track. Aubrey keeps the chorus from the original 1981 version and adds a little taste of Auberella wondering whether or not you can make her body talk. It’s classic Aubrey at her best.

In May, fans were given even more details about the album from Ms. O’Day herself. In an interview conducted during a stop in Chicago where Aubrey was performing a “Peepshow” burlesque show at the Enclave, Aubrey told reporters:

It’s almost done. The sound is like big pop club-bangers. It’s got an urban edge. I tried to infuse a lot of dance and techno. There’s a little bit of rock in some of the songs. … It’s like a lot of the music I made with Danity Kane. I’m working with a lot of the same producers.

Again, we see the dance and techno infusion with the song “Hitch-hiker” during the hook with possibly some unique an interesting sounds being created with auto-tunes. It’s an addictive high energy, club-banger that is sure to make waves once it’s released. This one certainly has the “hit-maker” stamp of approval.

Possibly the most interesting track from the album will be the one we haven’t yet heard the lyrics to. Yes, Aundrea Fimbres from Danity Kane is also featured on the track with Aubrey and I’m sure with that alone would make it amazing but, the track itself is something incredible. I am referring to the tentatively titled track “Ego Trippin”. First of all, let me just stop at the name: Love it! It says it all! A song that can be dedicated to your hatin’ ass boyfriend or girlfriend. The song sounds very Janet Jackson-esque (which we absolutely love). It’s funky, cool and something you can definitely jam to. It has that urban-edge feel to it and you can just tell it’s not like anything we’ve been hearing a lot of these days.

We’ve been able to take a closer look at Aubrey’s music-making process and what she has created. History tells us that when she’s ready to bring it she’ll bring it hard and her upcoming first solo album has all the right makings to be a huge hit. 2011 will be Aubrey O’Day’s year.
